Bonding

Teeth that are chipped, fractured, or have small discolorations can be repaired through the process of cosmetic bonding. Cosmetic bonding can also be used to cover up a portion of the tooth’s root if it has become exposed. A tooth-colored composite resin is applied that bonds to the tooth to repair and give a natural look.

Unlike veneers, which cover the whole tooth, and are manufactured in a lab, cosmetic bonding can be done in a single visit. We will help to determine whether veneers, bonding, or another solution is the best option for your situation. While cosmetic bonding can be done in one visit, this solution may not last as long as other options.

Cosmetic bonding is one of the easier dental procedures. No preparation is required, and most of the time, no anesthesia is required unless a cavity is present. We will find what shade of resin will match the color of your teeth the best. We will then lightly abrade the surface of your tooth, to ensure the best bonding of the resin to your teeth. Once the resin is applied, it will be molded to the desired shape. After the resin is hardened using an ultra-violet light, it will be polished to look as natural as your own tooth.

Cosmetic bonding is a safe procedure, does not require special care or maintenance. It is, however, softer and more fragile than your natural tooth, so chewing on hard objects such as ice or pen caps may cause the resin to chip away.
