Veneers

A veneer is wafer-thin, custom-made shell that is bonded to a tooth to improve color and/or shape. They can also mask chips or cracks, if they are not serious dental health issues. Veneers are typically made from either porcelain or a resin composite. Porcelain veneers look more natural, and resist stains, but resin veneers can be made thinner, and require less removal of the surface of the tooth before being bonded. Veneers can transform a smile and restore self-confidence for those who have been hiding behind a smile they are not happy with.

Dental veneers can be used to help correct the following problems:

  • Stained or darkened teeth
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Short or misshapen teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Worn teeth

The process of applying veneers usually involves three basic steps. In the first step, Dr. Santilli will discuss your desired results and do a thorough examination to make sure your teeth are suitable for veneers. Once the veneers are ready to be applied, a very small amount of the enamel will be removed, to achieve the best look and fit for your veneer. A mold will then be made of the tooth and sent off to the lab for the custom veneer to be constructed. The final step is the bonding of the veneer to the tooth.
